Carol singers target arms firm with Christmas protest songs12th December 2008 ANTI-NUCLEAR activists protested outside the headquarters of private arms dealers in London on Friday, singing appropriately modified Christmas carols to express their opposition to Britain's Trident replacement plans. Dressed in white "weapons inspector" overalls, festive hats and tinsel, activists and supporters from the Trident Ploughshares affinity group the Muriel Lesters serenaded nuclear weapons manufacturers outside their central London offices. One activist lay down in a body bag to symbolise the victims of nuclear weapons, including those of Hiroshima, Nagasaki and any future nuclear strikes. They brought messages of peace and condemnation to three corporations through the modified verses of popular festive tunes. Activists are demanding the suspension of work on the current and new generation of Trident nuclear warheads at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) sites in Berkshire. The peace carol singers targeted the headquarters of US arms giant and nuclear bomb-makers Lockheed Martin, Jacobs Engineering and the Fluor Corporation. They displayed banners, handed out leaflets and invited passers-by to sign Christmas cards, which campaigners said that they would hand deliver to the chief executives of the three companies.
